Commentaires : With a screenplay by Eleanor Bergstein, this was originally a low-budget 1987 film with Patrick Swayze and Jerry Orbach. It was a massive box office hit, becoming the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video, and spawning a 2004 prequel, “Dirty Dancing Havana Nights” In that same year a stage version was staged in Australia and although reviews were mixed, it was a sell-out during its six-month run. This production was re-created for the West End, with the Australian Josef Brown in the role of Johnny Castle. It opened with a box office advance of £6 million – the largest in the history of the West End. The show ran for five years , closing at the end of September, 2011– and Josef Brown continued to play the lead role throughout. (The show has had hugely successful productions in Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, but has not yet made it to Broadway.)
